Choose custom keycaps for your keyboard
Not every keycap set fits every keyboard. Compatibility depends on the geometry beneath the cap, the switch stem and the physical dimensions of the layout. Check each keycap stem first

- Cherry MX-style stem: A cross-shaped post and the most widely supported standard. MX keycaps from Gateron, Kailh and Outemu switches share this geometry and accept the same sets.
- Alps stem: A small rectangular post that requires Alps-specific keycaps. Standard MX sets will not seat correctly on this type of switch.

Match the keyboard layout
Layout determines the shape and position of keys that are not simple 1u squares. ANSI uses a horizontal 2.25u Enter key and a full-width left Shift, while UK ISO uses a tall L-shaped Enter key, a shorter left Shift and an Alt Gr key that ANSI sets do not include. An MX keycap set must therefore contain the correct Enter and Shift shapes for the target layout; one cannot be substituted for the other without a region-specific kit. - Standard spacebar: 6.25u, the most common size on full-size, TKL and 60% keyboards with a standard bottom row.
- Wide spacebar: 7u, less common but found on certain compact and custom layouts; confirm the exact size by measuring the existing keycap.
- Standard modifiers: 1.25u Ctrl, Alt and Windows keys on a full-size or TKL layout, with a 2.75u right Shift completing the standard bottom row.
- Compact right Shift: 1.75u, found on many 65% and 75% keyboards; a set must explicitly list this size.
The right choice depends on measuring the keyboard’s bottom row carefully. A set may fit every other key and still fail if the spacebar or right Shift is the wrong size. Compact layouts such as 60%, 65% and 75% often need sizes that are absent from some base kits, so check the set contents before ordering.
Select a PBT keycap profile
Keycap profile controls the height, angle and top contour of each row, directly shaping the typing experience. Cherry profile reaches approximately 9.4 mm at its highest point and uses angled, sculpted rows suited to south-facing switches; its lower geometry can interfere with north-facing switch housings and restrict key travel. OEM is slightly taller, with a similar sculpted shape, and generally clears north-facing housings. XDA is uniform and non-sculpted, with a flat, slightly spherical top that keeps every row at the same height. The result is a smooth, consistent typing surface suitable for either switch orientation.
High-quality keycaps made from dye-sublimated PBT have a textured surface that resists shine, while printing bonds the legends into the material instead of leaving them on top.
